PNP Farms Butchery has issued a recall for a batch of Pure Angus Beef Sausages due to the possible presence of glass fragments, according to New Zealand Food Safety, a division of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). The recall applies to sausages with a best-before date of August 17, 2025. The affected product was sold exclusively at two retail outlets operated by PNP Farms Butchery: one located at 84 High Street in Rangiora and another at the Bush Inn Centre in Christchurch.

The product has not been distributed to other retailers or exported outside New Zealand, the regulator confirmed. The recall was initiated after a customer complaint alleged the presence of glass in the product. One injury has been reported in relation to the incident, although this has not yet been medically confirmed. New Zealand Food Safety has advised consumers not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
If returning the product is not possible, consumers are instructed to dispose of it safely. Vincent Arbuckle, Deputy Director-General of New Zealand Food Safety, said the agency is working with PNP Farms Butchery to determine how the contamination occurred and to identify measures that will prevent a recurrence. He said food safety remains a top priority and the agency takes any contamination incident seriously.
Recall applies to sausages sold in Christchurch and Rangiora
The recall applies to sausages sold in varying weights under the Pure Angus Beef Sausages label, identifiable by the printed best-before date. Sales of the product ceased immediately following the consumer complaint, and affected stock has been removed from shelves at both locations. New Zealand Food Safety is continuing to monitor the situation and has reminded consumers that even small fragments of glass can pose a health hazard.
Consumers who experience symptoms after consuming the product are advised to seek medical attention. Food recalls involving physical contaminants such as glass are treated as high-priority cases under New Zealand’s food safety protocols. Regulatory authorities routinely inspect food manufacturing facilities following such incidents.
Food recall procedures activated by New Zealand authorities
In this case, PNP Farms Butchery is cooperating fully with the investigation. The recall is being managed under the joint oversight of MPI and New Zealand Food Safety, in line with established recall procedures. The agencies have emphasized that there is no indication the issue affects other batches or products produced by PNP Farms Butchery. New Zealand Food Safety has not issued further recalls at this time but advises consumers to stay informed through official recall notices.
Businesses and consumers may also register for food recall alerts through the MPI website. No further injuries or complaints have been reported as of August 15. The investigation remains ongoing, and findings will be released once concluded. PNP Farms Butchery has not made a public statement beyond confirming its cooperation with regulators. – By Content Syndication Services.
